How would a Scindapsus wish to be cared for?

Providing good care to a Scindapsus is not at all difficult. These plants are easy to take care of, and they’ve been known to reach a very old age dwelling in Dutch homes and offices. Below, you’ll discover everything you need to know to accomplish this.

Watering

Watering

The root ball of a Scindapsus must always be somewhat moist. It is therefore important that you avoid letting the soil dry out. The amount of water you give the plant will depend on a number of factors. Of course, these factors include the size of the plant, but also light intensity as well as temperature. During the winter, the plant can get along fine with less water.

Spraying

You can go ahead and spray or sprinkle your Scindapsus with water now and then, but this is not necessary per se. We do recommend, however, that you dust the plant from time to time. This helps keep the plant looking fresh.

Nutrition

Like any other houseplant, the Scindapsus is content with a bit of food. Giving the plant liquid food once every 2 weeks will suffice. You can even give the plant less food than this during periods in which the plant is growing less actively: during such periods, feeding it once a month is fine.

Repotting

Providing proper care to your Scindapsus will ensure its continued growth. To accomplish this, you've got to give the plant a bigger pot! This should be done every 2 to 3 years. Repotting the Scindapsus doesn’t have to be a chore, provided you deal carefully with its vulnerable roots

The right spot about the house

The Scindapsus is originally a native of the rain forest, climbing up along the stalks, stems and trunks of other plants and trees. For this reason, the plant is not accustomed to direct sunlight. You can place the plant in an area with light (in the semi-shade, for example) In fact, you can even place it in one of the house’s darker corners, where it will nevertheless thrive. But keep an eye on the leaves to be sure they're not turning darker in colour. Maintain a minimum temperature of 20 degrees (during the daytime).
